Amy Levine
Conservation Impact Director
Amy envisions a future where people and wildlife can truly thrive alongside one another and has dedicated her career to enriching the human-nature interface. She began her graduate education studying the ecology of Venezuelan primate communities living on freshwater islands created by hydroelectric dam construction. After earning an MA in Anthropology from Kent State University, Amy joined the education team at Denver Zoo – a move that led to a zoo-based wildlife conservation career spanning two decades. There she initiated a conservation program focused on critically endangered primates in Vietnam, and went on to complete a PhD in Biological Anthropology at the University of Colorado Boulder. She was eventually recruited into the zoo’s Conservation Department, where she spent ten years spearheading and supporting international conservation teams and partnerships protecting a wide variety of threatened species in Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Amy joined Island Conservation in 2022. She believes that accessible conservation success stories are key to inspiring communities, protecting and rewilding our planet, and leveraging the resources required to increase the scale, scope, and pace of impactful conservation solutions.
