Former Cabinet Minister and Ambassador of Seychelles, Ronald (Ronny) Jumeau, Joins Island Conservation’s Board of Directors

Island Conservation, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing extinctions on islands by removing invasive species, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ambassador Ronald Jumeau to its Board of Directors.

Ambassador Jumeau is a former Cabinet Minister and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Seychelles, having held several ministerial posts from 1998 to 2007. He served as Seychelles’ Permanent Representative (PR) to the United Nations, Ambassador to the United States, and High Commissioner to Canada from 2007 to 2012 and 2017 to 2021. In between, he was Seychelles’ Roving Ambassador for Climate Change and Small Island Developing State Issues from 2012 to 2017.

He started his career as a journalist in 1978, rising to Chief Editor of the country’s first news agency Seychelles Agence Presse and the Seychelles Nation daily newspaper. He became Secretary to the Cabinet in the Office of the President of Seychelles in 1992 before holding several ministerial posts from 1998 to 2007.

In his role as Ambassador at large for Climate Change and Small Island Developing State Issues, Ambassador Jumeau specialized in the ocean, sustainable development, island resilience, and renewable energy, among others. His expertise and leadership in these areas will be invaluable to Island Conservation as it continues to expand its efforts to protect island ecosystems from invasive species and promote sustainable conservation practices.

“We are thrilled to have Ambassador Jumeau join our Board of Directors,” said Karen Poiani, President and CEO of Island Conservation. “His experience in government and diplomacy, coupled with his passion for environmental conservation, make him an ideal addition to our team. We look forward to working with him to advance our mission and protect the world’s unique island ecosystems.”

“I am honored to join the Board of Directors of Island Conservation,” said Ambassador Jumeau. “The organization’s work is critical to preserving the unique biodiversity of our planet’s islands, and I am excited to contribute my skills and experience to this important cause.”
